Connecting Your Media Center PC to Your HDTV: Common Problems and Solutions

NTSC Analog CableTV or over-the-air analog TV: You can use your cable TV from the wall to connect to the WinTV-HVR-1265 and receive all of your basic Cable TV channels. You can also use a roof top antenna to receive "over-the-air" TV.

ClearQAM cable TV Channels: Clear QAM digital cable TV channels are unencrypted digital cable TV channels. Clear QAM allows users to watch unencrypted digital TV channels from their cable TV provider without a set-top box. Note: WinTV v7, WinTV v6, Microsoft Windows 7 or Windows TV Pack 2008 for Vista are required for clear QAM reception Note: Check your local cable TV provider for clear QAM reception over your cable TV network.

No, not from a cable or satellite box. But if your cable TV operator provides clear QAM and you connect a cable TV wire directly to the WinTV-HVR-1265, you will be able to watch and record HD TV. In addition, the WinTV-HVR-1265 has ATSC over-the-air digital TV tuner built-in and supports all ATSC formats, up to the high definition 1080i format.

But the WinTV-HVR-1265 will not be able to decode HD broadcasts that come through your cable or satellite box. The HVR 1250 also will support clear QAM cable TV channels through your direct cable TV line if available from your cable TV provider.

If you are watching a digital TV channel and you see choppy video, no audio or a black screen, then it is possible your PC is not fast enough to decode and play the digital TV channel you are watching. Please verify that your system meets the minimum requirements for using the WinTV-HVR-1265

The default mode is EVR. The other modes are VMR9, VMR7 and Overlay. Each mode uses a different process to render video. Try each mode and use the one which gives you the best results. To use hardware acceleration put a check in the box use hardware acceleration when possible. This will allow your graphics system to use hardware acceleration for video decode. Note: graphics hardware acceleration does not work on all systems. After making a change in video rendering settings Wintv must be restarted to take effect.

Windows Media Center lets you schedule recordings of TV shows and movies. You can even schedule to record all instances (new episodes) of your favorite TV show! Windows Media Center also makes it very easy to view all your recorded content.

Windows 7 supports a variety of high end displays including HDTVs. You can connect your PC to your HDTV and use Windows Media Center to watch and view all your media. Of course this works with a standard PC monitor too. But because Windows 7 makes it easy to share your digital media, you can have 1 PC connected to your HDTV in your home for Windows Media Center and bring in content from all PCs on your home network to that single PC connected to your HDTV. You could also use the Extender for Windows Media Center technology built into your Xbox 360 to access the same Windows Media Center menu you are used to using on your PC.

While connecting an Xbox or BluRay player to your HDTV via HDMI is fairly straightforward, doing so with a PC involves many more variables. Your graphics card may have an older driver, for instance, or the firmware for your display may be out of date. Many older devices such as graphics cards, displays and receivers did not implement HDCP correctly (or at all, in some cases). If your setup involves an AV receiver or projector, you have introduced additional components into the path that also have to successfully implement HDCP in order to create a secure path between the source (your PC) and the display (your HDTV).

We'll, you've decided to go for it. The ultimate home entertainment system. Since you want to access all the media on your PC on different TVs in your house, there's only one way to go: Media Extenders. Let's first take a look at what is required for this set up.

Most of us by now are using some form of wireless or wired network (or both). If you haven't made this move yet, there are plenty of network routers available on the market for less than $100. If you opt for wireless, a dual band 802.11 G or N router is strongly recommended. One benefit of purchasing a wireless router is that it can also double as a wired router. If you have difficulty with fewer connectivity points and the signal is not strong enough to transmit your HD programming, you could alternatively plug your computer directly into the ports on the back of your router. If you choose this option, make sure you have network cables that are long enough.

The PC that you choose to share your media from must be running a version of Windows Media Center (Figure1). This can be run from Windows Vista or Windows 7 editions that include Windows Media Center. While it is possible to run Windows XP Media Center Edition, newer media center extender hardware is not compatible with Windows XP Media Center Edition.

A Media Center extender is a hardware device that receives networking data from a PC to display on your TV. Common manufacturers are Linksys and D-Link. You can have multiple Media Center extenders connected to your PC. Windows Media Center Edition supports up to five additional extenders. Each extender can then share its own set of media from the PC. This is because each Media Center extender has its own unique user account.

Linksys is one of my favorite media extenders (because it is so easy to set up). Each extender is a little different, and each features instructions on how to work with that particular extender, so we won't go into too much detail on the setup itself. However, for a full review of the Linksys extender and installation information, check out this site: -keating/gadgets/linksys-media-center-extender-mcx-review.asp

The Dell Inspiron Zino HD is a compact little computer that is best used for a single purpose: to bring your photos, music, and videos to the big screen TV in your living room. There are more details about the Zino in this review.

From here, you can select whichever aspect of Media Center you wish to use by navigating up and down through the available choices. When you are on a given selection, you can often navigate to the right as well, given you direct shortcuts to recently played media and/or specific shortcuts (like going directly to recorded TV). The next section will cover each menu option in more detail, with tips to help you get the most out of your Media Center experience.

If you navigate in through the main My TV button, you are presented with a screen broken into three parts: a menu (on the left), a list of recent recordings (top right), and a list of things soon to be recorded (bottom right). There is also room toward the bottom left that is normally empty, but if you already have something playing (DVD, TV, even music) then there will be a picture-in-picture style miniaturization playing there, so that you can navigate the MCE interface without having to stop or pause playback. Every screen in Media Center has this area, actually, so that wherever you need to go your media can follow you.

While a given set of music is being played, you can control things like whether it goes in order or is shuffled randomly. You can also have it repeat continuously or just go until each song has been played once. You can even burn a CD directly from the interface, making it easy to create compilations of your favorite music to use elsewhere.

If you are just going to sit back and listen to music, having a visualization run on the screen at the same time can be an extra treat. A visualization is simply a graphical representation of the music you are hearing, and Windows includes several for your viewing pleasure. You can also download others off the internet; just make sure they are compatible with Windows Media Player (so that they will also work with Media Center). There are a variety of websites that host both free and share-ware visualizations, such as microsoft.com and wmplugins.com.

There are some neat extras here as well- like the ability to play a slideshow of pictures. You can even have a slideshow going at the same time as music is playing, by starting playback via My Music beforehand. You can also create a CD or DVD containing some of your pictures directly from this interface, assuming that you have a CD or DVD burner installed in your computer.

Sorry clicked post to quickly. I was saying their method is silly as it requires you to manually fill in the IP addresses or range. But up above this setting there is something similar, which to me shows this is a concious decision. There is a setting above for setting LAN networks for enforcing WAN vs LAN bandwidth restrictions. If you leave this option blank, the system will use the same local network that your servers subnet is attached to. So the server is more than capable of determining the local and providing the local only playback right out of the box, but PLEX makes you turn this on manually.

Air Media Center supports most music, videos and photo formats out there! Instantly watch your media on your device without any additional syncing or copying. This also helps you save precious storage space on your Apple TV/iOS device.

Air Media Center is smarter than smart. It will automatically transcode your media to match the playback capabilities of your device. You don't have to worry about codecs or file conversions. Just tap on the video, and enjoy the show! 2ff7e9595c
